Emotions Are Felt The Same Way Across Cultures

We are more alike than we would like to admit. When somebody says I get how you feel, it is right in a literal sense. We share the physical sensations of emotions with each other. By understanding more about how we feel our own emotions, we can learn new ways to empathize, communicate, and relate.

Are There Universal Expressions Of Emotions?

What is the face telling us? What can we learn about strangers before we speak a word? Facial expressions help us read a room and dramatically impact the way we feel about ourselves and the way we treat others.

How Leaders Build Empathy

Identifying and considering the unseen internal battles that others face is the path to empathy. Sometimes communication is disrupted because of another person's struggles. These miscommunications don't make other people less capable, but it may demand that we think more critically regarding their struggles. Considering other people's need for support will lead to the compassion and empathy that creates incredible leadership, loyalty, and performance

How To Speak Up

Speaking up can be difficult. If it weren't, it wouldn't be such a popular topic. Speaking up is not something we are born with; it is a skill we must develop through practice.

Developing Awareness To Observe Our Emotions

In this lesson, we have focused on learning how our questions impact other people and why we ask questions. The other activities have introduced the internal mechanics, but we need to develop mindfulness to watch our emotions to put these concepts into action. Remember creating awareness is the first step to change.

Reflektions

Emotions often have a bad reputation for getting in the way of logic and decision-making. Meanwhile, someone not expressing emotions is a frequent complaint in relationships! Very often people are classified as “too sensitive” or “too cold” as though there are only two types of emotional expression. In truth, learning how to understand your emotions and how to express them can enrich your self-esteem and your relationships.

Increased emotional management requires us first to understand that there are no “bad” emotions. This doesn’t mean that we can express our feelings without regard for others, but rather that trying to get rid of feelings - either by venting to others or by silencing and shaming ourselves - intensifies, rather than alleviates, strong emotions. Learning to identify and express your emotions effectively takes practice! Believing that you only need to be in control of how you share emotions, not that you have them, is the first step towards emotional empowerment.
